Microsoft PowerPoint is one of the most common presentation and slideshow applications available on the market, and as such, most businesses and schools require it for presentations. Viruses, software crashes, or other system or user errors can cause PowerPoint to stop working. Sometimes, the 'Repair' option isn't sufficient to fix the program. If troubleshooting fails to restore PowerPoint to a functional state, the application must be reinstalled. This means reinstalling PowerPoint or, if you installed the entire Microsoft Office suite, reinstalling the entire suite of programs.

Click the Windows Start button, select 'Control Panel' and choose 'Uninstall a Program' from beneath the Programs section.

Find and select 'Microsoft Office.' Click 'Uninstall' and select 'Continue.'

Follow the onscreen instructions to remove PowerPoint and the other Office applications from the computer.

Restart the computer when the uninstall process completes. Insert the Microsoft Office DVD into the disc drive.

Click the Windows Start button, select 'Computer' and double-click the disc drive if the DVD fails to launch the setup menu automatically.

Follow the onscreen instructions until the 'Choose the Installation You Want' message appears.

Click 'Customize.' Select 'Microsoft Office PowerPoint' and confirm that 'Run All From My Computer' is selected. Follow the same instructions for each application and feature to reinstall the entire Office suite, or leave the default configuration to install the default programs.
